Jewels with a Story
Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.

Schlumberger was a brilliant French artist who was mesmerized by the beauty of nature - colorful shells, exotic birds, fanciful animals, and blooming flora. He was self-taught and famously sketched his wondrous creations before bringing them to life in a playful way. His travels to exotic destinations such Bali, India, and Thailand sparked his imagination and influenced his magical and colorful palette.

After moving to New York, he opened his first jewelry store in 1946. His sensational bejeweled clips of birds, fruit, and sea creatures piqued the interest of Walter Hoving, chairman of Tiffany & Co., who recruited the talented artist to work for the renowned jewelry house in 1956.

“His travels to exotic destinations such Bali, India, and Thailand sparked his imagination and influenced his magical and colorful palette.”
Schlumberger was allowed his own studio, and given unlimited resources to create his fantastic gems. It was during this time he created some of Tiffany's most iconic jewels, including the Bird on a Rock, the 'Jackie' Enamel bangles, and the Dolphin Brooch, famously worn by Elizabeth Taylor.
His collection was in high demand and he often created bespoke jewels for his important – and ever growing – list of clientele, until his retirement in the 1970’s. Schlumberger's beloved jewels have transcended time and continue to be some of Tiffany's most treasured creations.
